Here's the group interviewing the mayor of Sunderland...
We had a brilliant day at the Northern Children's Book Festival, hosted by Sunderland at the Crowtree Leisure Centre. Highlights included interviewing Geraldine McCaughran, an unscheduled interview with Andy Stanton by the Sunderland group, and meeting the mayor. Here's Geraldine McCaughran being interviewed by our group:

Wow! What a great day we had at this year's NCBF gala day in Sunderland. Interviews galore - Geraldine McCaughrean, Robert Crowther and the mayor of Sunderland, plus anyone willing to talk to us. People were really friendly and didn't seem to mind having a microphone pointed at them. If you haven't been to the NCBF gala day in any of its last 24 years we really recommend you go to next year's, and there might be someone there to interview you! Podcasts available soon - where you can find out what Geraldine McCaughrean's favourite fact about J M Barrie is, and what the hardest thing is about being a mayor.
A big thanks to Jo, Steph, Miranda and Lynn on the day for all your technical support - it was great fun working with you.
The Newcastle Club are meeting this afternoon to prepare for their visit to this year's NCBF gala day in Sunderland. We'll be preparing questions to ask the authors (and hopefully the mayor of Sunderland), a footballer and the NCBF organiser! We might even have the mikes turned onto us by the visiting press. Anything could happen, but we're really excited about the visit and can't wait to go.
If you're a fan of Robert Westall's The Machine Gunners, or indeed any of his locally-set books then you'll love this informative and engaging radio documentary about Westall's Garmouth, the fictional setting of some of his books (real life North Shields/Tynemouth).
Produced by Neil Reynolds, a local student mastering in radio production, the piece is available as a download/podcast.
The Newcastle Radio Club is in its 2nd year - this year we are working in partnership with Walker Technology College, Newcastle. Our roving reporters are all boys from year 8. If you see us out and about with mikes it should mean we're doing a report or interview, so be prepared for questions!
We meet every other Thursday either in the school or at Walker Library
The Newcastle Radio Club meets twice a month, on a Thursday afternoon, either at Walker Technology College or across the road at Walker Library. We usually meet from 3-4p.m. If you'd like more information please contact nick.stopforth@newcastle.gov.uk.
